I know Faux Bare seems to have disappeared without trace but it might be worth mentioning young Odubeko here. Yes, I know he was completely anonymous in the cup game at Old Trafford, but he scored twice for the U23s a few days ago and is still making it onto the bench, so at some level he must still be in the manager's thoughts. It might be worth giving him the odd cameo and you never know, if we get any more injuries to our attacking players he might have to be given more than cameos.

Russ, did the owners do nothing about it or did they make an offer to do something that Moyes turned down because he does not want a short term fix?

Of course it was. I don't know a West Ham fan that didn't say we need another striker as, at some point, Antonio will be out. It was as clear as the sun rising in the morning.
Sad thing is, our owners knew that too but did nothing about it.

This is not the first time we’ve suffered lack of strikers because I well remember under Terry Brown’s stewardship Roeder had to play Ian Pearce at CF. That season the owner’s parsimony cost us relegation.

I don't buy that at all. But then no one knows the real reason. But this scenario was always going to happen, and that's unforgivable.

Yup. Collectively its a fuck up of West Ham proportions for sure.

very predictable, and nothing to do with spending 'big'. he showed he could bring in affordable options, yet was probably given promises about the summer window and his possible contract extension. that can't be any other logical explanation why he sat on his hands and put up with their bollocks. this news, along with the rice injury will be a cause for celebration with those three parasites

Yes let’s blame the manager for managing his limited resources and turning down limited player ability suggested by our height limited car crash of a striker finder owner.
Their spin has worked again.....Moyes wants a decent striker and will wait to find one, rather than be lumbered with one that everyone will say ‘he gave the go ahead to’

It can be spun several ways I suppose, but there is no excuse or rational justification for a PL football club to play half a season with only one recognised forward on its books. We had 5 of them not long ago. It's completely bonkers.

Fuck.i noticed that afterwards.
Is there no-one about who we can ger on a pay-per-play deal til.the end of the season?
As someone has already said they don't need to be prolific.

I would hazard a guess that when this season began the owners and coaching staff did not imagine that with eight games to go we would be in the mix for a CL qualifying league position. According to the WHO Poll though 9% of the experts on this Board predicted just that.
Back then the need for fit, capable, strikers was to keep us above the relegation zone and now it’s to keep us in the top four. The owners having their fingers burnt by badly overpaying for two not fit for purpose imports are reluctant to make the same mistakes and be left with yet another overpaid underperforming wally.
As for our manager he cannot stand the thought of getting a stopgap rather than a player that he chooses for the longer term. A player that might not be available or within our budget.
The only way we will spend big is by selling big.

Re: The Antonio dilemma.

I'm not suggesting Moyes is above criticism but I am not at all convinced that having no strikers can be pinned 100 percent on him.
A far more likely explanation is that Moyes identified his targets, the board failed to get them (perhaps with good reason) and Moyes didn't want to spunk any money that would better be spent next year on one of Sullivan's tried and tested duds.
In doing so he also sends a clear 'back off - no more of your amateurish meddling'' message to Sullivan which may also be for the best in the long term
It's also a mistake to say this current shortage is the failure of the last window. Truth is it is the result of numerous transfer windows in which we have failed to invest wisely, in the right areas, or at all. And we all know where the blame for that lies.

"Rice and Antonio out is going to fuck our season" - which a hell of a lot of us sadly predicted.
Watch Cresswell now get injured which gives us the full house of positions we all knew that needed strengthening.

Makes you wonder if Moyes did make the striker call _______
He admitted so himself. The pimps gave him the funds for a forward in Jan and he rejected it, saying he wasn't going to buy for the sake if it. Which would be fair enough if we were overflowing with fucking strikers......

It pretty much is the season if only 4 weeks. It takes him 4 games to get going again.
Rice and Antonio out is going to fuck our season.

Why would a chippy buy a hammer when he has three and be left without a saw? Unless of course Benny was finalised by another with a vested interest through a preferred agent
And that so called young striking protege, was he meant to be the back up and extending the theory, did Moyes play him as he did to prove a point?

Charley - That type of timeline is what I'm expecting. It would look too depressing and dramatic to write him off for the season, so they will wheel out that type of time frame. You never know he might make it back for the last 1 or 2 games.

Pinched from kumb 30 mins ago
West Ham's only recognised striker limped off ten minutes before half time during Monday night's 3-2 win at Wolves clutching his troubled hamstring. And the club are expected to confirm later today that a scan has highlighted a tear which will rule Antonio out for a minimum of four weeks.

Have to trust Moyes? That is akin to saying he can't be criticized, which is laughable. He gambled and he got it wrong. And as explained below playing Lingard up top is not a good idea, so it's Bowen for 8 games.
